Brown cloth with 1/4 leather, gilt lettering on front and spine, gilt emblem on front, leather on corner, gilt page edges, wear at head and foot of spine, small tears where spine meets front cover, edges rubbed, front hinge tight but front endpaper has mostly separate. Front cover has fading to top two inches.
Frances Willard was educator, suffragist and was the long time president of the Women's Christian Temperance Union.
Introduction by Hannah Whitall Smith, a Quaker and Reformer from Philadelphia who worked in British temperance movements. Page 384 has a photograph of Anna A. Gordon which has some scribbles in blue pencil. 698 pp., plus 6 page appendix about Willard's ancestry. Very good. Item #1263
