Carry Nation Ephemera

Post card. 1. 1 1/4 inches (3 cm) long brass hatchet pendant. Temperance supporters purchase these pendants to support the cause. Carrie Nation was famous for using a hatchet to attack saloons and crack open barrels of alcohol.


2. 5 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches (14 x 18.5 cm), post card entitled, "The Whiskey Crusade 1873 & After." There (5) small photographs, plus, (1) drawing and an illustration of a hatchet with a bow around it. Reverse side has a small description of alcohol consumption and the temperance movement. Printed by Helene Victoria Press, 1981.

3. 5 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches (14 x 18.5 cm, post card shows (a) a logo: "Household Temperance Defender" above a drawing of Carry Nation in a saloon with a hatchet and a man cowering behind a bar with liquid running off of it. 4. 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches (9 x 14 cm), linen postcard entitle, "Carry A. Nation and Home." With a picture of a house and an inset photograph of Nation holding a book in one hand and a hatchet in the other. Reverse side has a brief biography of Nation. No date.

5.3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches (9 x 14 cm), Reproduction of oil painting by A.E. Wadsworth of Carry Nation with an open book and hatchet. Reverse side describes Nation and the painting. Very good +. Item #1341
